Charity Registration No: 305350

Burwash Village Hall is a non-profit making organisation, registered as a charity, and has been the centre for many activities in the village since 1907. Currently these include club meetings, parties, shows, the annual pantoBurwash Village Hallmime, barn dances, whist drives, bingo.

The building comprises a large main hall, a parish room for smaller meetings, male, female and disabled washrooms, a very well-equipped kitchen and a snooker club [which is separately managed]. A comprehensive range of china, tables and chairs are also available for hire.

Many of the events are arranged by the Management Committee not only to raise funds for essential maintenance and repairs but also to pay for improvements to the building. Every penny we raise is used for these purposes. The members of the management committee are volunteers and give freely of their time to the running of the hall and arranging and supporting events.

Many groups hold regular meetings in the main hall:

BAPS: Burwash Amateur Pantomime Society [weekly when rehearsing]

Burwash Flower Club [monthly]

Burwash Ladies Group [monthly]

Burwash Short Mat Bowls Club [weekly]

Burwash Quilters [weekly]

Circuit Training Classes

Jane Coleman’s School of Dancing [weekly]

Monday Painters [weekly]

Not So Young Club [monthly]

Parent, Baby & Toddler Group [weekly during term-time].

When available, the facilities can be hired for children’s parties, adult parties/dances, jumble and table-top sales, meetings, lectures and other activities.

Latest News

The Whist players had another fun evening at their January meeting and raised £52.00 profit towards Village Hall funds. The next dates for your Whist diary are Thursday 2nd February and Thursday 1st March. The first hand of cards starts at 7.30pm. Entry is £2 and the evening includes 20 hands of whist. There are also light refreshments available for a donation. These are fun, sociable evenings filled with much laughter and ribald comments and with only a very mild element of competition. There are prizes for the highest scoring and second-highest scoring ladies and gentlemen, and a small fun prize for the lady and gent with the lowest scores. There is almost as much competition to get the lowest score as there is to get the highest! Why not come along for some gentle brain exercise and very friendly company?

We shall be holding a table-top sale on Saturday 18th February. Doors will open at 9.30am and will close again promptly at midday. Entry will be free for browsers and there will be refreshments on sale. Other attractions will be a Raffle and a Tombola stall. To book a table in advance for £5, please call me on 01435 882497 or e-mail shirley@bowzell.co.uk Bookings on the day will cost £6.

The Village Hall AGM will be held on 20th March, starting at 7.30pm.

Negotiations are in hand for the painting of the exterior of the building and the interior of the main Hall, followed by re-polishing of the wooden floor. This will mean the main Hall will be unavailable for bookings for most of August 2012.

We are still looking for a new Chairman or Treasurer for the Management Committee and I shall be happy to give more information to anyone who is interested. The commitments are not onerous separately but I am wilting under the pressure of both roles: I am happy to continue for at least a further year in either role. Please help support your village hall.

Don’t forget to book your seats for BAPS’ production of ‘Indiana Jones and the Panto of DOOOOOOOM, which will be in the village hall on Saturday 18th February, Friday 24th February and Saturday 25th February.

We always welcome suggestions for money-raising and fun events for the Hall. Please contact me or come along and give your support at our AGM on Tuesday 20th March.
