Neighbourhood Plan

Burwash Parish Council agreed to produce a neighbourhood plan in January 2016. The plan will set out policies for the future development and growth of our three-village community. Volunteer residents, with advice from an independent planning consultant, have been working alongside Parish Councillors since the autumn of 2017 in which time they have completed:

  • A thorough consultation across all three villages for everyone’s ideas wishes and aspirations
  • A call for potential development sites to all landowners followed by an assessment of each proposed site
  • Detailed research into the issues and challenges for potential housing developments, including surveys into each aspect of our:
  1. Environment
  2. Infrastructure
  3. Economy.

As a unique High Weald ridge top development situated in a stunning area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) we have faced formidable difficulty identifying suitable land, within the defined development area, for additional housing.

A draft neighbourhood plan for Burwash is now being put together supported by extensive research and consultation documents. The draft plan will be complete in April 2019, ready for consultation with the public in May and June and submission to Rother Distinct Council and the Neighbourhood Plan inspector in July 2019.

Volunteers and Parish Councillors are extremely keen to enable everyone to actively contribute their thinking and perspectives in the upcoming consultation, and intend to reach out and enable the widest possible input. Everyone’s wisdom is crucial.
