Please note that our internet cafe is now located in the Parish Room, adjacent to the main car park in the village. As the cafe is now run entirely by volunteers the opening hours have been changed. It is open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 10am and 1pm.
Volunteers are on hand to get newcomers get online, have their own email address and enjoy the benefits of the internet.
The facility will also be available for private hire, and we are planning a series of special events and focused training sessions that we believe will be of interest to everyone, and not just beginners.
A major campaign to raise funding for a new children's playground at Swan Meadow has begun. The organisers are keen to have input from everyone in the community - young and old alike, those with and those without children. They have some exciting ideas. More details on their campaign together with questionnaires for adults and children to complete can be found on the BPFA page, or by clicking here.
Rother Citizens' Advice Bureau advise that there are important changes for those receiving housing benefit and aged under 35. It used to be that those under 25 were only entitled to a shared accommodation rate. From Jan 2012 this rate will apply to those under 35. At the moment, those over 25 are entitled to a one bedroom rate. The difference between the two rates is is £26.15 [this can change on a monthly basis].
Our research shows that this could cause some problems for those affected, mainly because there is a lack of shared accommodation across Rother. You can read more by clicking on the link below:

The Parish Council has been looking for land locally for use as allotments. However, the amount of land that we would need has yet to be established.
If you're a resident of Burwash, Burwash Common, Burwash Weald, or elsewhere within the Parish of Burwash and would like an allotment please register your interest with the Parish Clerk, Mary Hayes on 01435 882980 or email maryhayes@btconnect.com.
Finding the right piece of land and a willing owner will take time but this is the all-important first step!

For over three years Shirley Viney has been organising shoeboxes for our servicemen and women in Afghanistan. Lots of people contribute, and Shirley estimates that over 500 have been sent to very grateful recipients serving under the most difficult conditions. We asked Shirley for more details to help build awareness and support for her scheme. A copy of her speech given at the Royal British Legion's Burwash branch AGM last November can be found on the website by clicking here. She also receives updates from troops serving in Afghanistan. The latest update is here November 2011.
