Road
All three villages lie on the A265 that links Heathfield with Etchingham and Hurst Green. Here the A265 connects with the A21 - the major road link between London, Sevenoaks and Hastings.
Tunbridge Wells is a 25 minute drive, Battle can be reached in 20 minutes by car, and the coastal towns of Eastbourne, Bexhill and Hastings are around a 30 minute drive.
Rail
SouthEastern trains serve Stonegate (2 miles from Burwash Common) and Etchingham (2 miles from Burwash), both stations are on the London to Hastings line. Bistro@thestation, www.bistroatthestation.co.uk a local community enterprise, is open Monday to Friday from 5:30am until 2:00pm offering teas, coffees, pastries and other goodies. Also open Wednesday to Friday 5-30pm to 11-00pm for tapas and wine.
Network Rail frequently undertakes maintenance tasks over weekends, and train services can be disrupted. A local bus service often connects stations on the Hastings line when work is being undertaken. Always check before travelling; the SouthEastern website always carries the latest travel information.
The local 318/319 bus service connects the three villages with Etchingham station – always check timetables as the bus/train links are far from perfect.
Bus
Local bus services are currently under review and it it likely that some services will be reduced or withdrawn. Bus services 318 and 319 offer a service that connects all three villages with Heathfield and Uckfield to the west and with Etchingham station and Hurst Green to the east. Services are approximately hourly during the day (more often early morning), with a more limited service on Saturdays, and no service at all on Sundays.
Battle Area Community Transport
Battle Area Community Transport provides a Fridays only service B73 connecting Burwash with Etchingham, Robertsbridge, Mountfield and Battle. It leaves Burwash (Highfields) at 10-35, returning at 13.00 from Battle arriving back in Burwash at 13.50. Free bus passes are valid on this bus.
