We held our Annual General Meeting at The Bear, Burwash Thursday 29th June 2017. Two members of the current committee stood down as they had moved out of Burwash and we had two new candidates for election. The 2017/2018 committee now consists of David Elmslie, Rod Clifton, Gary Enstone, Steve Mintram, Eddie Workman, Lesley Elmslie, Jaz Botting, Eric Botting, Roger Newman, Peter Thompson, Halina Keep. David Elmslie was voted in as Chairman, Gary Enstone as Vice-Chairman, Rod Clifton as Treasurer and Halina Keep as Secretary.

Going forward into 2018 we will run the coconut shy at the Burwash Fair in August and possibly another game; a ‘Guess the number of sweets in a jar’ game at the Burwash Common Fete in September and serve teas and cakes at the Rude Mechanicals production on the Burwash Playing Field in July; we will also have a stall at the Christmas open Burwash evening in December.

A hog roast, or BBQ, is planned for 2018, as well as the committee being involved in events such as the Burwash Fair, Burwash Common Fete and the Burwash Christmas open evening.

We are happy to consider suggestions for events that we could organise for the community, please contact us with your ideas, see below for contact details.

A committee was set up in the name of ‘The Burwash Jubilee Community Fund’. The aims of ‘the Jubilee Fund’ are to maintain, and raise funds, for the benefit of community groups and organisations within the Parish of Burwash (subject to the agreement of the committee), to make loans to community groups and organisations to assist with their fundraising needs and to support and augment any fund raising for a Coronation, Jubilee or similar celebration in the Parish.  If you would like to view our consitution please click here.

A fabulous sum of over £4000 was raised in April 2012, mostly at an Auction of Promises, to provide funding for events that were to be held over the Jubilee Weekend in June 2012.  Some of the remaining funds that have been spent locally include projects such as:

  • Buying a bench for Swan Meadow Playing Field
  • Donation to the Royal British Legion Burwash branch to help buy poppy seeds which were then planted in commemoration of the First World War Centenary in 2014
  • Paid for two litter bins on the High Street
