Burwash and District Flower Arrangement Club

I am delighted to say that we now have fifty five members in our Club.  This is fantastic for our little village (especially when so many Clubs are folding because of lack of funds or support).  As you know, we celebrate our Emerald Anniversary this year and so, how appropriate that we have fifty five members!  But, can we top this?  Please do come and join us – you do not have to be a flower arranger to watch the talents of others unfold.  It only costs £4.50 for an afternoon, or, if you join the Club, £12 covers the whole year.

  • Monday, Sept 12th Demonstration – Mrs. Gaenor Circus "Ancient & Modern."
  • Wednesday, 19th October 10-12md Flower Workshop
  • Monday, Nov 14th Demonstration – Mrs. Christine Nash "Xmas Tales."
  • Monday, Feb 13th 2017 AGM

Meetings are held at 2.15 p.m. at Burwash Village Hall unless otherwise stated

Emerald Anniversary Celebration

If you wondered why there were so many lone men in Burwash on the evening of the 29th June it was because 84 Burwash ladies (and 3 gentlemen) were at the Village Hall having a very entertaining evening celebrating 55 years of our Flower Arrangement Club. We were joined by about 10 ladies from other local flower clubs.

We spent 2 hours watching (and listening to) Michael Bowyer, one of the best National Flower Arrangement Demonstrators in the UK. He was ably assisted by our Chairman Jean Plummer who even helped Michael lead us in a Fijian dance! Michael’s breath taking displays were on the theme of Precious Moments and were beautifully lit by Ray Heathcote (what would Burwash organisations do without him?). Most of the displays were auctioned off afterwards, so if a friend of yours has told you her dramatic flower arrangement was her own creation check where she was on the 29th! We are delighted that two of the arrangements, one by Michael Bowyer, and one by our Club Member, Ruth Austin, were displayed in St. Bartholomew’s Church and another, again by Michael, was displayed at Christ the King.

The evening was rounded off by a buffet supper prepared by the committee. Having arrived in pouring rain it was a relief to find the rain had stopped as we left for home. I think we can say that a good time was had by all.

As part of our Emerald celebrations, a week later we were off for an outing to Osterley Park. (See what fun we have in our club and that’s without picking up a flower!) This is where some of the ITV production Dr Thorne was filmed. We were blest with a lovely, sunny day to view this beautiful National Trust venue where the gardens and parkland were superb and the house itself was delightful to view. If you haven’t visited Osterley, do go, you will be in for a treat.

Our Village Club now has 58 members – a fantastic achievement for a small village and for a Club that is based on a specific subject. Can we reach 60 members? We are looking for new committee members too, as two of our long standing ones retire in February next year. We are a very friendly group and would love to welcome even more new ladies (or gentlemen) to join our group.

We are hoping for third time lucky at the Burwash Fair this year, wishing for fine weather so we can hold our tombola for baskets of flowers. If you have any small baskets to spare they would be very welcome - please give to any committee members.
